Burgimmune is a combination of herbal active ingredients, medicinal mushrooms, beta-glucan and vitamins important for the effective functioning of the immune system. Coriolus versicolor (Turkey tail) mushroom: Coriolus versicolor (also known as Trametes versicolor, Polyporus versicolor or yunzhi mushroom) is a common mushroom species found throughout the world. “Versicolor” indicates multiple colours. The mushroom is commonly called turkey tail mushroom, as its shape are similar to those of a wild turkey. It supports the activity of the natural, so-called “killer cells”, and promote their creation. These cells helps to kill tumour cells and overcome infections. In some countries turkey tail mushroom is routinely grown to product natural polysaccharides, beta-glucan (PSK) and polysaccharide peptide (PSP). Drugs produced from it are used in the therapy of cancer patients as an adjuvant therapy to reduce the side effect of the surgery, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy. PSK is a generally used anticancer drug in Japan. The fungal extract reduces the negative effects of the traditional therapies while it has a positive effect on the immune system. In a recently conducted study at the School of Veterinary Medicine, University of Pennsylvania, dogs with haemangiosarcoma – an aggressive, malignant tumour of the vascular endothelium – were treated with the molecule extracted from Coriolus versicolor mushroom. Based on the criteria observed by the researchers – the rate of tumour progression and/or spread, and how long the animals actually lived – the results demonstrated that the mushroom product is effective against the tumour, as the median survival time increased to 199 days, while the longest median survival time reported to date was 86 days. The active substances of Coriolus versicolor are the beta-glucan-protein complexes (PSK-crestin), which has antioxidant, anti-tumour, antiviral and immunomodulant effects too. Studies demonstrated the direct anti-tumour effect of the PSK polysaccharide. The other important molecule is the polysaccharide peptide (PSP), which also have antiviral and antioxidant effect. Ergosterols (D29-provitamin derivatives) are anti-tumour polysaccharide components. PSK and PSP are the most important active substances of the Coriolus versicolor mushroom. Both molecules are supporting the function of the immune system at various points. Ergosterols are inhibiting blood vessel formation, preventing the growth and metastasis of tumours. *

Beta-glucans: complex carbohydrate molecules with unique molecular structures that determine their biological activities. The molecules containing 1-3, 1-6 branching carbon atoms are among the best known immunostimulators. These molecules containing 1-3, 1-6 branching carbon atoms are originating from the yeast cell wall, which is treated by a specific method for the strongest immunology activity. It has been demonstrated by several clinical studies that beta-glucans extracted from yeast cells show the strongest immunology effects. The are effectively supporting the immune system against bacteria and viruses, and increasing the effectiveness of vaccination. * It was shown that the level of antibodies against canine parvovirus and rabies virus were significantly elevated in those dogs that had received beta-glucan along with their vaccinations (Haladová et al., 2011). Oral administration increases the IgG and IgA antibody levels in the blood and mucous membranes. The mode of action of the beta-glucans is based on binding to specific receptors of macrophages, neutrophils, monocytes, dendritic cells and NK-lymphocytes (Stuyven et al, 2010). Beta-glucans are activating the complement system, stimulating the production of the pro- and anti-inflammatory interleukins (IL-1, IL-6, IL-10, IL-12), and TNF-α. This increases the stability of the immune system, and protects the body from bacterial, viral, fungal and parasitic infections (Pelizon et al, 2005; Wójcik et al, 2007; Chen and Seviour, 2007). The main task of the beta-glucans is the activation of the immune cells in the frontline of the immune system, the macrophages. These macrophages capture and engulf all foreign bodies (bacteria, viruses etc.), warn and initiate the defence system, recognise and destroy mutant cells. Macrophages are “digesting” beta-glucans, and then the released active fragments are connected to the so-called complement receptors of the neutrophil granulocytes. This way they are activating the mechanism that destroys the pathogens. The process is similar for tumour cells, in this case the administration of beta-glucan triggers the natural immune cells that would otherwise have no role in identifying tumour cells. The beta-glucan activates the complement receptors of the neutrophil granulocytes, so they will be able to detect and destroy tumour cells too. *

Ginseng: an ancient, Chinese potential antioxidant and anti-inflammatory, with proven anti-tumour effect against certain tumour types, increases the function of non-specific immune system, immunoenhancer. Increases the brain functions, and could help to reduce blood glucose levels. Saponins found in ginseng, the ginsensoids are promoting the production and maturation of mononuclear cells, macrophages, and dendritic cells. Among others, these cells are responsible for antigen presentation, that is, the identification of foreign bodies entering the body, and “introducing” them to other parts of the immune system.


VITAMIN B6: In addition to improving metabolism, Vitamin B6 supports vision and has numerous favourable effects on the health of the skin. It detoxifies the liver and supports renal function. Its appetite-improving and antiemetic effects are also proven, which can be important in the case of neoplastic diseases. Vitamin B6 is a water-soluble vitamin, the active form of which serves as a coenzyme of many enzyme reactions.It is necessary for the normal functioning of the immune, digestive and nervous systems and for the synthesis of haemoglobin.


Spirulina algae: Spirulina is a kind of blue-green algae which can be found in both in saltwater and fresh water. It is considered to be the most nutrient dense food on the planet. Its main active substances are C-phycocyanin (a blue pigment not containing magnesium), Chlorophyll a (a green pigment do containing magnesium), approx. 50% protein (therefore it is rich in amino acids, especially in essential amino acids), high molecular weight polysaccharides (e.g. calcium salt of spirulan), sulpholipids, γ-linolenic acid (can amount to 1%), β-carotene and other carotenoids, and vitamin B, C, E. The microalgae are often used all around the world to treat anaemia. The effect on anaemia is due to the improvement of haematopoiesis and the increase of iron intake, as the iron content of spirulina, despite being from a plant source, is relatively well utilized. The haematopoietic enhancer and immunostimulant effect was observable in animal studies, and this could have a positive outcome when applied concomitantly to chemotherapy treatment, as spirulina enhances the proliferation and maturation (differentiation) of the haematopoietic cells in the bone marrow blood production. During consumption the activity of the natural killer cells could be increased. Spirulina’s blueish colour is due to the phycocyanin pigment content. Pycocyanin is an antioxidant, reduces the toxicity of harmful substances, and has immunostimulant, haematopoietic and antiviral effect. Both C-pycocyain and polysaccharides are playing a role in increasing the white blood cell production. It is fat-soluble, so it provides an effective protection to the cell membrane too. Protects the coronary arteries of the heart, prevents blood clot formation, which is an effective assistance against the development of thrombosis. It has a benign effect on the brain too, as the cells protecting the nerve cells also contain a high percentage of fatty acids, which could be damaged by free radicals. Recommended duration of administration:

For healthy animals: 2 months’ treatment recommended, twice a year.

For ageing animals (small size: over 8 years of age, large size: over 6 years of age): continuous administration recommended.

For puppies: continuous administration recommended from 6 weeks to six months of age. (If immune boosting is required earlier, consult your veterinarian.)

Continuous administration during pregnancy and lactation.

In case of illness or infection: 1-3 months’ treatment is recommended, or continuous use until the illness has resolved (Consult your veterinarian!)

In case of surgery or allergies: 1-3 months’ treatment is recommended, or continuous use until the illness has resolved and the wound has healed. It is recommended to start the treatment prior to a planned surgery or an expected allergic period. (Consult your veterinarian!)
